Predator is an action-horror classic full of iconic images of visceral violence, but for all of its bullet storms and alien camouflage, perhaps no shot in the film is as chilling and memorable as that of Sergeant Mac Eliot scraping the hair off of his sweat-drenched face with a dry razor. It’s a harrowing sight: Mac stares with haunted, dissociated eyes into the jungle waiting for the Predator to appear, seeming to lose focus on what he’s doing as he pushes the razor so hard into his skin that it draws blood and eventually snaps. Carl Weathers’ Dillon looks on, as fixated on the state of Mac’s mind as the viewer is, and it’s all a testament to the incredible acting by the man who brought Mac to life: the legendary Bill Duke.
